The photographer started detailed coverage of 4601's journey in the Pennines. This location is on the A62 which was at the time the trunk road from Manchester to Huddersfield and Leeds. The railway passes under the hills here by means of Standedge tunnels, although only one of the three bores is now used for rail traffic (and there is also the canal tunnel).
