This Metrorider was one of a batch of four which were to be the last new buses supplied to the successor of Darlington Corporation Transport. Darlington Transport Company were exposed to competition on routes in the town from several operators, one of which was Your Bus (South Durham Bus Company) who were using several Iveco minibuses which had previously worked Bustler services in the Rhondda.

DTC's last services ran on 11-Nov-1994 and Rhondda Buses bought two of the Metroriders (39/40) which became 257/258 in that fleet.
