Jordan, Blaenavon GNY 912 Phil Sposito

Subject: Jordan, Blaenavon GNY 912
Chassis: Bristol L5G
Body: Beadle B32R
Location: Garn-yr-Erw, Jordan’s depot
Date: early 1960s

Pontypridd 48 was the first normal withdrawal of the batch and the only one of the type to go for further service. It passed to Jordan of Blaenavon, who were quite big fans of the Bristol L chassis.

The destination display is an unusual Pontypridd one and almost certainly refers to New Rockwood No. 3 colliery above Taff’s Well, which was being developed at the time the bus was new. It was a smaller colliery than the contemporary and nearby Nantgarw colliery and would have been reached along Cemetery Road, a road which was later to be the destination of the Ty-Rhiw service introduced by Taff-Ely in the 1970s (see Taff’s Well local services).
