Subject: Newport C. T. 10 (TDW 310J)
Chassis: Leyland Atlantean PDR1A/1
Body: Alexander H43/31F
Location: Newport, Shaftesbury Street
Date: c.Aug-1971

Newport 10 is seen here when fairly new and looks smart in Newport’s simple but attractive green and cream livery. Shaftesbusy Street here was sandwiched between the canal then the station on one side with the castle and then the river on the other. This is now one carriageway of a short dual-carriageway and traffic only passes the opposite way to this Atlantean under this bridge, whilst the canal behind the camera is now the A4042.

Newport 10 was later to become Taff-Ely 80. The destination Bettws ‘A’ refers to a circular service, meaning it was the anti-clockwise version. It circled the huge Bettws estate, built to house around 12,000 people.

From an original slide in the David Beilby collection, photographer unknown.
