Subject: Bradford C. T. 214 Maker: English Electric, Preston Seating: 43/22 Truck: English Electric 21E Motor: 2 x DK31A 50 hp Controller: Dick, Kerr DB1 Form K4 Location: Thornbury depot Date: c.1921
214 was the second of the 1921 batch from English Electric comprising twenty cars. Like the 1920 batch they had the lower style of upper deck balcony panels which led to a very balanced appearance. When later fitted with upholstered seats the lower deck capacity was reduced to 19.
214 was one of ten of the type sold to Sheffield in 1942. It was converted to standard gauge and given enclosed upper deck vestibules, something the Board of Trade would not permit on 4'-0" gauge trams. 214 became 325 in the Sheffield fleet and entered service in a wartime overall grey-green livery.
