Oldham Panther 172 shows no real evidence of SELNEC ownership in this view from June 1970. It is passing under Mumps Bridge having come into Oldham along Bottom o’th Moor, recently widened to dual carriageway as seen in the background. Lees Road, which this bus would have taken at the beginning of its outward journey from Oldham, can be seen in the distance immediately in front of the bus. The roundabout at Mumps was still under construction.
Although this one didn’t, half of this batch of Leyland Panthers ended up following the electric loco seen in another photo to New South Wales, where they ran a lot longer than they had in Oldham.
