Subject: Western Welsh HR4468 (RTX 496G) Chassis: Leyland Atlantean PDR1/1 Body: Northern Counties H42/31F Location: Abergavenny bus station Date: c.1977
The erstwhile Rhondda 496 certainly got about and in this view is working from the former Red & White depot at Abergavenny as HR4468.
There were very few double-deckers left in the Red & White fleet at this stage and the transfer allowed the withdrawal of the last Lodekkas from Abergavenny depot. This bus was one of three of the batch hired to Red & White from Nov-1976 to Dec-1977 which were HR44/48/4968, although HR4868 left earlier. The remaining two were replaced by new Bristol VRTs at the beginning of 1978.
The 145 was an Abergavenny local service that ran to Llwynu Estate. Just to confuse the picture it is shown in the contemporary timetable as a Red & White/Western Welsh joint service, although only one bus was needed to work it. The joint licensing was a product of the 1967 Monmouthshire co-ordination scheme.
