Subject: Portsmouth C. T. 23 (RV 6381) Chassis: AEC 661T Body: English Electric H26/24R Location: Southsea, Victoria Road South Date: 1936/37
23 is working on the southbound service 4 from Cosham to South Parade Pier. This used Twyford Avenue instead of London Road. It is here near its destination, after a very short run on Victoria Road South it will turn into Albert Road which can just be seen curving off at the right of the photo. In September 1948 this route was renumbered 19 and the previous 4A became the 4.
23 looks to have had a long life with Portsmouth, being new in 1935 and sold in 1956. However, it was laid up during the war from Sep-1940 until May-1946 and then withdrawn in Jan-1951, being stored until sold for scrap and broken up in Eastney depot yard. It had been renumbered 223 in 1938.
