An action-packed scene from 14th November 1954 at the top of the hill as Oldham PD1/3 286 starts the descent. The manouevre is made more difficult by the motor cycle and sidecar parked on the junction. The light traffic of the day and a much shorter bus than used nowadays allows the driver to easily overcome the obstacle. The speed limit sign indicating de-restricted meant just that in those days and there was no speed limit all the way from the outskirts of Uppermill to near Grotton. However the cars of the day were not generally able to make much use of the fact.
