Subject: Newcastle C. T. 499 (LTN 499)
Chassis: Sunbeam S7
Body: Northern Coachbuilders H39/31R
Location: Gosforth, Great North Road
Date: 1948

499 was the first trolleybus built on Sunbeam's new S7 chassis and was new in Jul-1948. It was one of a batch of thirty which mainly entered service in 1948 with the last few not arriving until 1949. Although the S7 was designed with 8'-0" wide bodywork in mind, these were only 7'-6" wide.

It is seen outside the lodge at Gosforth Park. The trams before them had entered Gosforth Park but the trolleybuses remained on the Great North Road when they were inaugurated on 18-Apr-1948.
