3946 UE had been new as Stratford Blue 46 and was allocated Midland Red number 2046 when the fleet was absorbed at the beginning of 1971. It was sold later that year to PMT still carrying Stratford Blue livery and number. With PMT it was repainted and became 407. It is seen very soon after arrival at Tonmawr and can be compared with Willowbrook-bodied example from the same origin.
