Subject: North Western 470 (XK 7595) Chassis: Daimler Y Body: Brush BxxF? Location: Uppermill Square Date: c.1925
This interesting postcard shows the very early days of bus operation on this route, with a North Western Daimler outside the Commercial Hotel in Uppermill. To the left of the bus is the Saddleworth Palace cinema (which would not at this stage be showing "talkies") with the chimney belonging to Buckley Old Mill.
470 is believed to be one of a number bought by Samuelsons in London from the War Department in Slough (and based in this case on a 1922 chassis), which were returned to the WD's Slough depot when Samuelson's failed. It was numbered 470 when new to North Western in 1923, renumbered 67 in 1927 and withdrawn in 1928.
