Subject: North Western 223 (CDB 223)
Chassis: Leyland Titan PD2/1
Body: Leyland L27/26R
Location: Oldham, Union Street
Date: 12-Sep-1964

I just love this shot and am so grateful to Alistair for permission to use it. It captures so well the bustling feel of Oldham on a Saturday at the time and the bus is so typical of North Western of the era, with the modified blind display a contemporary feature of the fleet.

As it’s a Saturday there will be more buses on the 153, giving a 20-minute frequency (when combined with the 13/14) to Uppermill via both Lees and Scouthead. 223 will have arrived from Uppermill through Lees and is about to turn down Clegg Street and double back to the terminus on Ashworth Street. Behind is an SHMD Atkinson on the 16 from Mossley, another service that was more frequent on Saturdays.
