I owned this Oldham Crossley for many years and was quite surprised to find that this batch were used when new on the Saddleworth services. This photograph shows 368 (now resident at the Manchester Museum of Transport) at the top of George Street in October 1950. In the background in Market Place can be seen Burton's store and next to it the impressive Art Deco facade of Weaver to Wearer, a company established by Sidney and Lionel Jacobson who went on to join the Burton board in 1953. The trams had been abandoned four years at the time of this picture and it can be seen that the track in George Street used to be single track, opening up to double track in Market Place itself. There had been an earlier branch from here which led directly into Henshaw Street but this had probably been lifted some years before.
