The section of A470(T) here from Upper Boat to Abercynon opened on 18th December 1973 and from the state of the associated construction work it is obvious that this was very recent at the time of the photograph. This view can easily be confused with the one from near Pontypridd's depot but this is the roundabout nearest the town centre, a photograph taken from a viewpoint off Merthyr Road that doesn't work today due to tree growth.

71 is working to Cilfynydd and swinging round the corner to join the present-day equivalent of Doctor's Hill. 71 would operate for Pontypridd's successor, Taff-Ely, until April 1975.
