This is a holding gallery where pictures of Red & White and Western Welsh buses, bought in the period of common management as part of the NBC, are stored. It is not a completed gallery but as the gallery develops this will become part of a full, detailed gallery on the period when Red & White and Western Welsh were under common management but before the full merger that led to the formation of National Welsh.
I have chosen to treat Jones, Red & White and Western Welsh as a common fleet from around 1974, the break point being when the vehicles ceased to be distinctively rooted in one of the fleets. There isn't an exact date but with each fleet there's a relatively obvious dividing line, although Leyland Leopard coaches were less clear cut. From 1974 onwards purchases were more in line with NBC policies and in fact the bulk of the vehicles bought in this period were Leyland Nationals.
These vehicles were normally bought in batches were were split between the various fleets. The batches had common number series and common registration blocks so it is easier to consider them as a whole. In addition, there was a great deal of hiring of vehicles from one fleet to another to the extent that in some cases vehicles didn't operate for the fleet they were supposed to belong to at all in the period up to the formation of National Welsh.
The PSV Circle records the various vehicle movements and loans in this period and I believe the approach I have taken will make it easier to see the overall picture.
