Huddersfield 144

Subject: Huddersfield C. T. 144
Maker: English Electric, Preston
Truck: Maley & Taunton swing link
Seating: 40/20
Location: Huddersfield, Great Northern Street
Date: c.1932

144 was Huddersfield's last new tram. The truck is quite dirty so it is not brand-new in this photograph.

143 and 144 differed slightly from the 1931 batch. They were 30 feet long (instead of 29 feet) which allowed more seating upstairs at least. They were new with four Ashanco extractor units on the side above the lower deck windows and the centre two windows on that deck were also half-drop units.

144 was also sold to Sunderland Corporation in April 1938 as their 29. It was the only one not to last until the final closure of the system there, being withdrawn in April 1953.
