R4171 winds its way round the curves at the end of the route. It is displaying its onward working from Pontypridd to Aberdare. The Ynysybwl service was effectively worked as an extension of the Aberdare to Pontypridd service at this time and through fares were available.

I used Ektachrome 400 at the time and would not have been able to capture this shot with a slower film. The sidelights show that it wasn’t a bright day!
