Subject: Ashton C.T. 30 (CTC 327) Chassis: Leyland Titan TD5 Body: English Electric H29/25R Location: Preston, Abingdon Drive Year: 1937
A rear view shows this aspect of the body design to be less well executed with quite shallow emergency exit windows. The lettering over the platform shows the seating capacity - an unusual but not illogical place to put it.
30 served Ashton until Jun-1950 and was sold for scrap the following year. Given that the Crossley Mancunians delivered the same year lasted another five years, but had Metro-Cammell bodies, it points to there being problems with this body design.
Significantly, Oldham's similar vehicles delivered the same year also had much shorter lives than the Roe-bodied examples new at the same time and many were rebuilt in 1948/1949.
