Subject: Bradford C. T. 785 (GHN 403) Chassis: Karrier W Body: East Lancs H39/32F Location: Bradford, Bolton Road Date: 24-Jun-1971
This is the last Thursday of operation on the Shipley/Greengates trolleybus routes. Unusually the change to motorbus operation took place the following Wednesday night, with motorbuses commencing operation on 1st July. 785 nears its destination on the run from Greengates with what became the last trolleybus of all, 844, following behind from Saltaire.
The building on the left played a small role in Bradford's transport history. It was an early generating station and was used to power some initial trials (unsuccessfully as the voltage was too low). It would be Valley Road that would supply the trams and trolleybuses.
Whilst the former generating station has been demolished, the warehouse building behind has not. Built in 1912 it features a faïence/terracotta cladding on all except the base (not even a full storey) and obviously the end walls. Most buildings in Bradford used stone.
