Carlisle 12 was numerically the last of the replacement fleet introduced in the city as a result of Balfour Beatty's takeover of the system in 1911, following which the fleet comprised eight double-deckers and four single-deckers. The new vehicles introduced a green and cream livery to replace the original chocalate and cream.
