Subject: Belfast C. T. 130 (GZ 1621) Chassis: Sunbeam W4 Body: Park Royal UH30/26R Location: Belfast, Castle Street Date: c.1943
Belfast was hit quite badly by bombing during World War 2. That and the increasing demand for transport due to the presence of several key industries in the city meant that quite a few wartime buses were allocated to Belfast. Mainly motorbuses, just two trolleybus were delivered in 1943. These were based on the only trolleybus chassis authorised for production during the war, the Sunbeam W (which could also be badged as a Karrier). This has a body to full utility specification by Park Royal and is seen when new on Castle Street in Belfast working to Falls Road. As it is wartime it carries headlamp masks and a white strip at the bottom of the front dash to improve visibility in the blackout.
