Subject: Halifax C. T. 6?
Maker: English Electric, Preston
Truck: Peckham cantilever, built by Brush
Seating: 32/19
Location: Halifax, Skircoat Road
Date: c.1929

The number of this tram can't be made out clearly and the one suggested is the 'best fit' with what can be made out on the original. In any event it would not carry this number long - the first seven of these ten English Electric cars were originally given the numbers of earlier cars which had been withdrawn, but the whole batch was soon renumberd and became 114-123.

The design followed on from a prototype buily by Halifax in 1927 (car 107). The bodies were enclosed as far as possible but the partial open balcony, along with a reduced overall height, were to reduce the area presented to side winds which had been the cause of two trams overturning on the Queensbury route. The trams also featured comfortable reversible bucket seats.

These trams were good but still had a short life as the tram system closed completely in 1939. The body of one of these became a shelter at the bus terminus at Commons, above Rishworth.

Worthy of comment is that this tram is fitted with a nearside rear view mirror, visible at the left hand end by the cab window and also through the tram at the right hand end, above the hand with the "Stop and Look" warning.
