The first former bus in the Pontypridd ancillary fleet never ran for Pontypridd as a bus, but instead started off in Cardiff. BO 3639 was a Dennis-Stevens with Dodson B28R which was new as Cardiff 49 in 1920. It was converted to a tower wagon in 1929 and came to Pontypridd on loan between March 1946 and November 1947.
After giving twenty-one years of service, Bristol B 3 (TX 9543) became a training vehicle and operated as such until 1956, by which time it was the last remaining petrol-engined bus in the fleet. It was sold around November 1956.
The solitary pre-war Bristol L 16 (ETX 322) then became a training vehicle in August 1956, also acting as a towing vehicle. It was repainted in an all-blue livery for this role, which it kept until sale in March 1962.
Unfrozen Bristol K5G 17 (ETX 763) acted as a training vehicle briefly, starting by December 1958 until May 1959 when it was sold, becoming a showman’s vehicle.
The best-known former bus in the ancillary fleet was L6G 51 (GNY 915) and in its later years it seemed to live in a half-way house, partly in the operational fleet and partly in an ancillary role, but it was officially transferred in June 1973 and withdrawn from that role in April 1978. It has since had a succession of owners, ending up in Belgium.
