Western Welsh 520 (BTG 520J) was quite badly damaged in this incident but was repaired and survived to be portrayed as an EFE model in National Welsh livery.
It had been new to Rhondda and this photo therefore manages to capture all three former operators of the Ynysybwl service in one shot, although by this time only Red & White continued to operate it, represented by the Bristol FL6G in the background.
Pontypridd’s 94 negotiates its way past the vehicle used to put 520 back on the road, one which is in itself very unusual being an American-built Ward LaFrance belonging to Wynn’s of Newport. 520 was actually towed away by one of Western Welsh’s own recovery vehicles.
