740 entered service in advance of the remainder of the batch but was generally kept away from the city centre due to concern over conflicts between this 8'-0" wide trolleybus and the Bradford Moor trams, which it would soon replace. It was normally confined to the Bolton to Bankfoot 34 service and it seems no-one has thought to change the number blind.
It is therefore likely that this was a special visit before the Bradford Moor route opened on 4th December 1949, mainly for publicity photographs. In the process the photographer has captured 740 in front of the YMCA building (Midland Buildings) which was destroyed by fire in June 1950.
