Subject: National Welsh U4566 (HBO 379D) Chassis: Leyland Tiger Cub PSUC1/12 Body: Marshall DP41F Location: Pontypridd bus station Date: c.1979
Western Welsh 1375-1384 were the last new Tiger Cubs with dual-purpose bodies which therefore carried the ivory and blue livery when new. This bus was originally 1379 and was one that received the short-lived red and cream livery in Nov-1971.
It then went through a series of renumberings. In Aug-1974 it became UD266, then in Oct-1975 it changed to UD4566. It was classified as a bus from Nov-1976 and the number changed to U4566. There are no letters before the fleet number on the front but the gap where the letter 'D" had been can be seen on the side. It ran in NBC dual-purpose livery after downgrading and doesn't seem to have ever received bus livery.
U4566 is standing in the unfinished Pontypridd bus station. Despite being unfinished it is in use for the public, probably a reflection on how desparately the facility was needed operationally.
