696 was one of the trolleybuses intended for Johannesburg but not shipped due to the war and delivered to Bradford instead. They were 8'-0" wide when new and therefore the chassis needed less modification than other vehicles when fitted with new East Lancs bodies, in this case built in 1955 but first used at the beginning of 1956.
