Wiring on Thornton Road, just below Springhead Road, showing just how spacious this road was. This section of route originally had wiring using "Nottingham" type catenary, which involved catenary wires running from the top of the poles to a central bull ring. It was later found possible to replace that catenary with standard span wire construction.
