This photograph has been heavily retouched to the extent that it is almost an artist's impression rather than a photograph. The maker's transfer is all picked out manually and the detail on the wood mouldings is also picked out by hand. This would be done to make these details visible given the limitations of both the photographic emulsions and the printing technologies of the time.
