Subject: Western Welsh 432 (VTX 432)
Chassis: AEC Regent V LD3RA
Body: Weymann H37/33F
Location: Porth depot
Date: 1-Aug-1971

In contrast with the picture of 431 at Priory Furniture, 432 has not even left Porth and has had identification painted out. Recently withdrawn, it would pass to North's in a couple of months and then after some time would pass to Earby Light Engineering Company, Earby. After almost four years with them it was sold to Richardson, Oldbury, but not used.

The advert was part of the campaign to re-brand Watney's Red Barrel after it started to lose market share to other breweries. For a while the change worked but new trends in beer-buying and an increased hostility to big brewers' keg beers saw it decline and eventually disappear. It's actually an older beer than usually imagined, being first brewed by Watney, Combe & Reid in 1931 as a keg beer for the Indian Market, able to withstand higher temperatures and long shipping times.
