Subject: Rhondda 448 (448 GTX) Chassis: AEC Regent V 2D3RA Body: Metro-Cammell H39/31F Location: Porthcawl, Eastern Promenade car park Date: 4-Aug-1963
448 is parked up, probably for the day, in Porthcawl. Immediately behind can be seen a railway track which was part of a triangle of tracks here used for turning locomotives, but also at one time serving the town's gas works.
Beyond can be seen a lamp on Porthcawl's station which would close just over a month after this photograph on 9-Sep-1963 although the railway remained open for freight until 1-Feb-1965.
The stone wall behind the bus was once the approach to one of the coal hoists in Porthcawl's harbour. Due to its small size and the better facilities at other, large, ports traffic declined such that it closed in 1915. It was eventually filled in, creating the parking area which the bus is using.
The vehicle to the right is almost certainly EBX 751, a Leyland Tiger PS1/1 with Plaxton C32F body which ran for LCW of Llandeilo.
