Saddleworth viaduct is behind the photographer here in July 1984, whilst the view looks over what was at the time the short navigable section of the Huddersfield Narrow Canal at Brownhill. The building on the right was later known as the Brownhill Countryside Centre but has since closed and is now a cafe. Almost lost in the Saddleworth landscape is a Leyland National heading for Diggle via Dobcross and crossing the canal bride carrying Dobcross New Road. This bridge has latterly proved rather troublesome and the repairs caused some disruption to bus services although they are now completed.
