Subject: National Welsh U4166 (HTG 302D)
Chassis: Leyland Tiger Cub PSUC1/12
Body: Marshall B45F
Location: Tonypandy, Dunraven Street
Date: 6–Sep-1978

A bustling scene in Tonypandy with a Leyland National disappearing in the distance passing H7966 on a 520 to Pontypridd.

In the foreground U4166, not in wonderful condition with a paint problem on the front nearside corner and access flaps not secured between the axles, is on its way from Clydach Vale to Blaenllechau. It is passing J. D. Jones who I understand once had three fruit and vegetable shops in Tonypandy. The building still exists but it has been some time since you could buy fruit and veg there.

U4166 is working through to Blaenllechau - these workings ran via Trealaw which is why it is heading this way. The alternate journeys which ran just to Penrhys ran direct from Tonypandy to Llwynypia.
