Subject: National Welsh HR3269 (VTG 506G)
Chassis: Leyland Atlantean PDR1A/1
Body: Northern Counties H42/31F
Location: Tynewydd, St. Alban's Road
Date: 27–Jun-1979

Seen from the trackbed of the closed Rhondda and Swansea Bay Railway line, HR3269 has just started its run down the valley from Blaenrhondda.

Noticeable in this view are two trees from distant lands. Araucaria araucana, better known as the monkey puzzle tree, is a native of southern Chile and was introduced to this country in the 19th century. Young trees made a focal point for gardens but have very long lives and grow in the distinctive shape seen here as they lose the lower branches as they grow. They indicate that the housing here in St. Alban's Road was for colliery management, not miners.
