Subject: Western Welsh HR2869 (VTG 502G)
Chassis: Leyland Atlantean PDR1A/1
Body: Northern Counties H42/31F
Location: Cardiff, Duke Street
Date: 4-Aug-1977

502, by now numbered HR2869, turns from North Road into Duke Street, passing the end of Queen Street which had been pedestrianised quite recently, on 3-Nov-1975. The imposing building with the columns was Marment's, Cardiff's oldest department store which closed on 8-Sep-1986.

The advert on the side of the bus would be viewed as ironic very quickly. It says "Modern mining - a big industry with a big future". Given that the last coal was raised in the Rhondda valleys only seven years later, that was not the way it turned out and shows how dramatically a change of government can change industry.
