Subject: AA, Ayr (Tumilty, Irvine) NTG 142 Chassis: Leyland Tiger Cub PSUC1/1 Body: Weymann B44F Location: Ayr, AA Bus Station off Boswell Park Date: late-1960s
Rhondda 331 passed to AA member Tumilty of Irvine in 1966 and is seen in the green and cream livery associated with the AA fleet. It was sold for scrap in November 1970.
The journey to Stewarton was around twenty-one miles and just longer than the principal service to Ardrossan being worked by Dodd's of Troon 12 (CSD 843). That bus started life as a Guy Arab III with bodywork to Southampton specification, including the destination display. It is recorded as having received the bodies from two Southampton Guys in quick succession in 1964 and 1965. The first was from 116 (FCR 206) and the second from 112 (FCR 202). Given that with the later bodies it was also converted to air braking as specified by Southampton I can only question how much of the original bus remained.
