36 has returned from Maesycoed along Pwllgwaun Road and Rhondda Road and has just passed under the rebuilt railway bridge on the latter.

Previously there was a pub called the Collier’s Arms on the site of the lay-by but that had been demolished for some time by the date of this photograph. The background has since changed again with the exit from the St Catherine’s Corner multi-storey car park now at this point.

To the right of the bus was Caddys Stores on Mill Street, the timing point for services leaving the town northwards.
