This photo dates from 1972 when major construction work was taking place in Karlsplatz in association with new Metro lines. An unidentified L3 or L4 type, still with the white band below the windows and prior to the creation of the L type, hauls c3 trailer 1230 towards Oper on the 65, whilst E1 4492 is outbound on the 66 having come from Oper between the two buildings in the background on temporary track.

The 66 ran to Raxstraße from Oper, originally along Favoritenstraße but at this time it was diverted along Graf-Starhemberg-Gasse, as building of the U1 line resulted in Favoritenstraße being closed. The 66 ceased when the U1 line opened.
