Heaton's Travel of Leigh purchased a couple of modern vehicles which were then eligible for operation on services tendered by Transport for Greater Manchester. One of them was this former Optare demonstrator which has presumably only just joined the fleet as it later ran with a Heaton's Travel fleet name in large letters on the bonnet.
The 604 was a commercial service and ran from Wigan to Leigh via Golborne. However, it was the loss of the tenders saw Heaton's sell this bus, following which it moved to Rhondda Buses as their 254. Heaton's ceased trading not long after.
