Towards the end of the transition from Western Welsh to National Express, this coach still shows X71 on the destination blind but carries the 871 service number on a windscreen sticker. It is obviously in the white National livery and has even received its new fleet number in the Red & White style, UC568. It would be renumbered again the following October as UC5468.

It has just called in Merthyr Tydfil bus station and is now resuming its journey north.
