Bradford 247

Subject: Bradford C. T. 247
Maker: Bradford City Tramways, Thornbury Works
Seating: 42/26
Truck: Hurst Nelson 21E
Location: Cottingley Bridge Farm
Date: 1914

247 was one of a batch of four high-capacity cars (246-249) built in 1914. It featured deep balcony panels and a reversed staircase. Around 1927 it was fitted with a Boving 21E truck. The capacity was reduced to 33/19 when it was fitted with upholstered seats in the early 1930s.

The batch was renumbered 146-149 to make way for new English Electric trams built in 1919-1921. As 147, this tram was withdrawn in 1935.

The route through here had only just opened, to Bingley on 3rd February 1914 and on to Crossflatts later the same year on 13th October. They were the last extensions to the Bradford tram system and were replaced by trolleybuses from 7th May 1939.
