Subject: Blue Bus 73 (A73 VTX)
Chassis: Leyland Tiger TRBTL11/2RP
Body: East Lancs DP47F
Location: Bleak Hey Nook, Huddersfield Road
Date: 16-Aug-1996

Blue Bus 73 had come from Rhymney Valley District Council via National Welsh and Rhondda Buses and was a very lively Leyland Tiger with East Lancs bodywork. It is joining the A62 on 16th August 1996 with the Horse and Jockey at Bleak Hey Nook in the background whilst working from Oldham to Huddersfield.

A pub of that name opened nearby around 1760 but the new building shown was opened in 1937. It still retains some of the Bents Gartsides signs despite takeover by Bass in 1967. Although closed some years ago and since ravaged by fire, these signs still remained for many years after.

Note that this bus has regained the Tiger badge it had when new.
