JLJ20047

Subject: National Welsh HR5971 (BTG 515J)
Chassis: Leyland Atlantean PDR1A/1
Body: Alexander H42/31F
Location: Treforest, Cardiff Road
Date: 5-Mar-1982

HR5971 has just passed under the A470(T) and is nearing Glyntaff roundabout. This section of road was relatively new at the time with the road being diverted when the trunk road above was built. The road going across the foreground and to the right was the original road and is now a cul-de-sac.

HR5971 was another of the batch to lose its grille in the centre of the front dash, something that had only happened in the previous two years. As Simon has commented below, this was a result of it receiving the front off HR5871 (BTG 514J) and this photograph allows it to be compared with the standard front. It is carrying stickers for the New Rhondda local identity but unfortunately an incomplete nearside fleet name.
