Subject: Western Welsh 378 (VUH 378J) Chassis: Leyland Atlantean PDR1/3 Body: Alexander H42/31F Location: Pontypridd bus station Date: c.Aug-1971
The shot's a bit blurred but there are few photos of these working for Western Welsh as their stay was very short. The batch was supposed to be of ten vehicles. Only five ever operated for Western Welsh, another four were delivered to Ely and went to join the tenth which was delivered direct to East Yorkshire. The five that entered service did so in Jun-1971 but were sold in Apr-1972 to Western National.
378 is entering Pontypridd the traditional way for the through service, along Bridge Street and is on the new road linking Bridge Street and Morgan Street. The 332 had ceased to use that route by the Aug-1972 timetable and entered Pontypridd along Broadway.
378 went on to become Western National 1021 generally operating from Plymouth. Later it moved to the Devon General fleet, still as 1021 operating mainly around Torquay and was finally withdrawn in Nov-1983.
