Subject: Western Welsh 1220 (LKG 220) Chassis: Leyland Olympian Body: Weymann B44F Location: Pontypridd, Station Square Date: May-1958
This Olympian, not to be confused with later and much more successful double-decker, was never a popular model and Western Welsh took 47 of the 60 built. The batch had a mixture of O.350 and O.375 engines when built, this one being new with an O.350 version.
1220 is just leaving Pontypridd on the journey to Porthcawl. Despite it being new one month after the service changes of Feb-1956 it seems to have required an extra board to show that it was going via Llanharry. At the time Western Welsh didn't use route numbers but it was then Rhondda's 144 service - later both operators would used the number 244.
