Darlington's initial fleet of sixteen single-deckers bought in 1904 was supplemented by two double-deckers in 1913 which were numbered 17 and 18.

Withdrawn in 1926 on abandonment of the tram system in favour of trolleybuses, these relatively-new trams found a new home with Dover Corporation Tramways (this one becoming number 8 in that fleet) and lasted there until the system closed at the end of 1936.

Although A and B end designations were quite commonly used on trams it was more unusual to find the designation externally, as can be seen here below the headlamp.
