A surprise find at Porth depot on this 1979 visit was the first Red & White Bristol RE. Originally R165 it had become R4865 in Oct-1975. It went on to become one of the last two of the batch to remain in service, being withdrawn in 1980.
I wonder how drivers coped with the combination of rear engine and manual gearbox, something with which they would not be familiar? Given the number didsplay, I am intrigued at the possibility of one of these visiting Blaenrhondda.
