280 was delivered in early 1955 and, along with the rest of the batch (275-287), was stored until the last extension to the Cardiff system (to Ely) opened on 8-May-1955. The chassis was built at the Crossley works in Erwood Park, Stockport.

It was the first of the batch to be withdrawn, in Oct-1968, following an accident.
