This interesting photograph shows a stage in vehicle painting rarely recorded. The area to be lined has been flatted down and the lining added. In this case I believe the thicker line is actually gold leaf. Close scrutiny reveals an edge to it - in modern days you might say that is was a self-adhesive vinyl but not in 1932.

I am open to correction on this and would welcome any comments from those with more experience of the process.
